Now that winter is in full swing, it’s a great time to flee the cold and go on an exciting adventure to another part of the world.  ‘Tis the season to be jolly, and our recommendations for winter escapes are sure to put you in the right holiday spirit.

1.  Seychelles

La DigueSince the islands of the Seychelles are blessed with a year-round tropical climate, it’s always a great time to visit.  The Seychelles Sailing Cup, which is held annually in January, is an international sailing event that is fun to observe.  For the beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts, the Seychelles enjoys fabulous sailing and snorkeling in winter months.  The Seychelles is a a perfect wintertime escape for anyone who is looking for a pristine, uncrowded beach and a breathtaking landscape.

2.  Thai Islands

ThailandAnother fantastic place for a wintertime island getaway is Thailand.  On Thailand’s islands, you’ll find pristine, soft white sand, rustic beach shacks, turquoise sea, and delicious food.  The Phi Phi islands (on which The Beach was filmed) offer a younger and more energetic crowd and fun activities such as diving, snorkeling, cliff jumping, and boat trips.  On Koh Samui, check out the golden Big Buddha statue, or have a day of complete serenity at the Four Seasons Koh Samui Spa!  On Thailand’s largest island, Phuket, you can find some of the world’s most gorgeous beaches, explore the gorgeous rock formations in Phang Nga Bay, and enjoy some fantastic cuisine.  On Krabi, explore the Tiger Cave Temple, or soak up the sun on Phra Nang Beach!

Due to its close proximity to the equator, Thailand enjoys a tropical, humid climate throughout most of the country throughout most of the year.  On the Andaman Sea/West Coast of Thailand (which encompasses Phuket, Krabi, and the Phi Phi Islands) the weather is warm and dry from November through March.  On the Gulf of Thailand, or east coast, you can enjoy dry and tropical weather from January through August.

4.  Australia/Great Barrier Reef

Great Barrier ReefThere’s no time like the winter to go Down Under!   Australia’s warmest summer months last from December through February, so you’ll stay warm while checking out your favorite Australian landmarks.  Explore the iconic Sydney Harbor, venture into the untouched Outback (we especially recommend a stay at Longitude 131), or explore the beauty beneath the seas at the Great Barrier Reef!

5. The Maldives

VillaSuiteOver-waterSunDeck-BThe Maldives is the perfect tropical island getaway.  Isolated and private, the Maldives offers luxurious overwater accommodations, as well as some of the most gorgeous and untouched beaches on the planet.  The winter is the best time to experience the Maldives, as some of its best, dryest weather can be enjoyed during the months of November through April.  Forecasts predict that due to the country’s low elevation and rising sea levels, the idyllic islands of the Maldives may be inundated in the coming years.  See this beautiful island paradise while you can!

Pack your bags.  It’s time to head to paradise!
